About Me

If you are easily bored, turn back now.

I love making stuff, most of which turns out to be a big mess and a waste of time.  I have never been a very good artist as far as the “fine arts” are concerned, but I like practical things.  I like woodworking; I like metalworking; I like concreteworking.

My father was an electrical engineer and built the house I grew up in. My parents tell me that I was a great help, but really I think I just kept myself occupied and out of their hair at that young age.  I was always using my dad’s tools and may have even left a hammer outside once. I worked all through high school at a garden furniture place, Fall Creek Farms, and made a lot of cool things out of Redwood.  The owner was a genius.  Jr. high and High school wood shop also helped – I remember a friend cut her finger on the band saw and another kid had a board on the table saw kick back where it hurts most.

College was here and there and I ended up at Georgia Tech where they finally gave me a diploma and I didn’t have to pay them any more tuition.  It was six years in the making, but I don’t regret any of my education – not even the class that I failed.  Civil Engineering is what I studied and even found some of it interesting.  I liked the details about the materials and what could be done with them to achieve the desired characteristics. The design classes had some great info in them as well.  I plan on building my own house one day.

I worked a few of those college years at Standard Concrete Products.  They were nice enough to let me stay when I graduated and even kept me around a while.   From there I got a job with Concrete Technology Corporation, another precast/prestressed plant, in Tacoma Washington.  I have a great boss and co-workers, so hopefully I am a productive employee for them.  Here we sell/design/draw/fabricate structural concrete members, just about everything – pile, piers, floating structures, bridges, walls, floors, stadiums, and everything else.  I enjoy prestressed concrete and wouldn’t mind staying in the industry for the rest of my career.

So that is where I am now, Tacoma Washington.  I go to work everyday and come home to my wife and two daughters.  They are really what make me who I am.

  1. Hey Dan, This site looks really good. See I told you it was easy. One thing I would do is to have more links into Etsy. Like on the picture frames, you good link the title or even the pictures straight to etsy. Just a thought. Nice job though.
